Without increasing your web traffic all that you put into your site will not amount to much of a return. You worked your tail off making a site that you are satisfied with. You worked day and night, making sure everything was just right. The day has finally come and you hit that publish button or the like, depending on the software you are using. Now your site is on the net. Hooray. Well without web traffic, that moment will be the only exciting moment of the entire venture.
I am so glad you asked. There are many different ways to go about it actually. Banner exchanges are good, of course you want to see which banner exchanges you are interested in. Compare, visit some of the sites and decide. A web ring is also an option. Most likely your site is centering around a specific topic or genre of merchandise. Visit similar sites. Or, do a search.
Just think of it as advertisement. That little shop on the corner probably wouldn't have so much business flowing into it if it had not put some effort into drawing people in the door the first time to see what they offer. Word of mouth and return customers multiplied the amount of people coming into that shop. Not to say that some people just happened to walk into the store, but wouldn't it be wiser to help them into the door.
