3. The Server's Switch: This scam is very straight forward. It is simply advertising one set of services and providing another. This is mostly used by companies that make their money with each visitor to it instead of in selling you a web service.
To avoid a web server scam you have to read your service agreement thoroughly and all of the terms of service etc. before signing up. Check to make sure that any discounts and deals are not simply introductory and if they are see if you can live with it. You can also look for sites that offer proven track records, and finally; make sure that the site is a member of the better business bureau.
All that you can do if you come across a web server scam is report it to the public in a public forum and lick your wounds. Some people will go to the media with their complaints, but it is of little use if you didn't read the fine print first.
