There are hundreds of companies on the Internet that make a living selling e-mail addresses. While the option may be tempting to you - there are thousands of e-mail addresses that you can get from these companies - avoid the temptation. You want to keep your mailing list targeted to those who will actually visit the web site. Mass e-mails to people who are not guaranteed to be interested will probably get you busted for sending SPAM, which could get you blacklisted from your web hosting provider. It's not worth the risk.
When you create the newsletter content, keep it short, simple, and informative. A good resource for newsletter content is questions you get about your web site or products. Ask a question in the newsletter, and then answer it carefully and completely.
Also, you can offer giveaways and contests that require site visitors to return to see if they've won. Repeat site traffic is what you're after, and you will get it if you offer discounts, freebies, and contests.
Somewhere in the newsletter, ask the reader if they know of others who may be interested in receiving it. It's a sure-fire way to grow your mailing list and get more web site traffic.
