The key when going through the domain name registration process, especially if you are new to it, is to make sure that you do not pay too much. Some services will mark up the price significantly. If someone has already purchased your name as part of a domain farm and is selling it for 100 times its market value or more, think about whether you want to change it. Even with bulk domain name registration companies, the prices can vary. Look around.
If the name is not registered to anyone already, you can buy it for as cheap of a price as you would like. Some of these companies offer deals for multi-year registrations, and you should think about them carefully before you buy. Most registrations are good for one year and then must be renewed. Many companies will give you a less expensive annual price if you buy a name for three or five years or more.
If you have an offline store and you intend to just have another contact for customers, these deals are definitely worth the money. If you are starting an online business, though, you may not be around in five years. Then, you have to consider whether the extra cost is worth it if you are only using the domain for one year. Just be careful here. Make sure the deal is for you.
