You have a thin line to walk. You want to make a profit on these sites. Because going through a massive domain name registration company is inexpensive, you will need to at least double your price to make enough money for the site to be worth your time. You want to try to sell above that rate, though, and that is where it gets tricky. If someone wants www.cookie.com, to stick with our example, and you are selling it for $400, that person probably will go to www.cookies.com for much cheaper.
So, your job is to balance how valuable you think a domain is with how much you need to make. It is not necessary to stick with one pricing system. You can base your prices on what you think someone may be willing to spend for each domain that you purchase.
While you are waiting, put your site to use. By utilizing basic search engine optimization techniques, you can have your site come up in search engines. If you wanted to have people visit www.cookie.com, you would get them there and then just have a page of links. That is all you need - white background with links. You can link to large cookie companies with which you have an affiliate agreement, sites that sell recipes, and other places of interest.
Use the domain property to make a little money on the side until you sell the property. That way you are using the property to its fullest while you are waiting.
