Professional Web Site Design at a Fair Price

Once you take into consideration what other freelance web site designers charge and what professional web site design businesses charge, then you need to start thinking about what is fair. Not just what is fair to the customer, but what is fair to you as well. Many web site design firms charge more than $75 per hour for web design, whereas a freelance professional web site designer may charge as little as $10 per hour.

Think about the quality of work you are delivering and whether or not the client could easily get equal quality at a better price somewhere else. If so, why would they choose you? You might need to lower your price. Also, keep in mind that you don't want to do a huge amount of work for a tiny price, so you don't want to quote too low either.

A good thing to do is to think of a price you think sounds fair for a certain project, try to estimate how many hours that project will take you, then divide the price by the amount of hours. If the hourly rate seems too high or too low, adjust the price how you see fit.

Whatever the quote, make sure to get the agreement between you and your client in writing. You want to make sure you get paid for all the work you put into the project even if the customer decides not to make the web site go live. There is nothing worse than getting stuck in a bad situation with no contract to back you up.
