If your website does not fit into one of the above categories, then you should get a paid site. If you run a business online or if you point people to an online portfolio or if you are trying to develop an internet community, pay for a site. I
n the first two cases, if you're running your business online or if you have a portfolio, a free website says that you are not confident enough in your business, skills, or product to pay a small monthly fee for web hosting. You seem to be a fly-by-night business, and people may not be willing to use your services.
If you are trying to build an internet community, you also will not want to opt for free web hosting. The URLs for these free sites are very long, with a few exceptions, meaning that people have to remember the entire site. Instead of going to www.yourdomain.com, your visitors will have to visit www.yourhost.com/yourdomain or some similarly long format.
It also does not look like a place you want to frequent because it could disappear tomorrow. So, free sites can work for personal reasons, but for business, stick with a paid site. The investment is worth it.
