What free web site hosts are best for beginners?

There is no easy answer to that question, however, the most popular hosts tend to be the easiest to work with. And never fear, most web hosts have help pages and tutorials. Bravenet, and the Big Three, have extensive tutorials and you can e-mail them with specific problems. Keenspace operates using FTP, file transfer protocol, if you have never used a web host, or useed FTP, it might be a difficult host to work with.

Working with a free web site host

Never forget that the host is in charge. There are Terms and Contracts that you must agree do and follow or fear losing your site. There are restrictions on free sites, but since they are free, the restrictions are usually livable. If you ever have a problem you can appeal to your host, you will not be alone. If your site is deleted you can appeal, and at worst you can always start a new one, after all it is free.

Get your free site noticed

Domain names are more easily remembered because they are short, often direct names, such as www.google.com, while a free site often looks like this: www.yoursite.topcities.com, or www.angelfire.com/moon2/yoursite. If you want you site noticed, it is best to get it on a Search site, such as Google, or Yahoo.

Bravenet and Angelfire will help you do this.

It's time to get started. Pick the host you want, sign up, and load your stuff onto your host. Welcome to the Free World of Web Hosting.
