There is a small community out there on the World Wide Web of Canadian web site hosts perfect for Canadian site builders. The majority of web site hosts are American or European, this makes it awkward for Canadian's to find Canadian hosts, particularly cheap, or free ones, but it is not impossible. Its all a matter of looking. Okay, Northern, North Americans, let's start looking.
There are a number of paid sites out there, Hostroute.ca, and 247webs.ca, are two examples. Canadian hosts tend to be more expensive. It is even harder to find free host sites. Canadianwebs.com is a decent example. The issue here is if you want your site to be seen, many of these hosts have inadequate user directories so people aren't likely to randomly stumble upon your site. But also, since there is not a large selection of free hosts, Canadian site builders cannot be too picky in searching for a Canadian host.
As a fellow Canadian I empathize with searches in need of a Canadian site host, it really is not easy to chose with all the pros and cons out there.
Pros:
Being Patriotic
Less likelihood of the name you want being taken
Getting a .ca name rather than a .com name
Cons:
Fewer visitors
Fewer hosts to choose from
Not a lot of add-ons
Before making the decision on whether or not to chose a Canadian host, consider the pros and cons, so you make the choice that is right for you.
