Web design is not something that can be just thrown together in an instant. It is something that needs to be thoroughly thought out and well planned. Consumers can tell when a website is cheaply made or thrown together without a second thought. This is something that needs to be avoided.
Before researching or investigating web design companies in any way what you should do is create your own web design. It is not as hard as you may think. I myself designed my own website recently and it turned out to be a great success. I had an image in my mind that I was unsure I could describe to the web designers efficiently enough, so I took the time and effort to complete a web design draft myself.
This greatly helped the web designers create the vision that I had and create it to my expectations. Sometimes images and pictures are more effective to describe your thoughts in this type of situation than anything else.
All you need is a piece of blank paper, a ruler and a pencil. No matter who you are, if you have a domain name and a company or product, you most likely have some type of image in your mind as to how the site should look; no matter how vague it may be.
Make a sketch as best you can including: where you want your pictures to be, what you want your pictures to be of, what type of text you want, how you want it to look, the color scheme, the margins, the boldness, where the web content should be, etc. Every single thing that encompasses a solid and successful website should be on your web design. This will prevent any miscommunication between yourself and the web designers and ensure that you get the finished product that you are hoping for.
