What is the catch to free web hosting?
As with all things that seem too good to be true, free web hosting does come with a few catches. First of all, the reason why hosts are able to offer free web space is because they are sponsored by other companies who use the free spaces as advertising space. It works much like magazine and radio sponsors who will also advertise that way. This means that your free web site will have banner ads and pop up windows all over it. because of these ads, your web page could take a long time to load.
Another catch is that free web space will force you to pay for the services if you use too much bandwidth due to a lot of traffic on your site. Free sites often make you register for other promotions too when you sign up and they often share this information with other companies. Next thing you know, you are loaded with spam.
How to keep free web hosting catches at a minimum
You can't do anything about the ads unless you pay for your service. However, you can prevent spam by giving a never used email address. Free web space is excellent for sites that are not for generating money. That is why they are still so popular. For businesses, a free website can be used as a marketing ploy to a better website.
