Building Your Web Design Portfolio - How to Get Samples

Building your portfolio of web design projects takes time, but it well worth the effort. Your portfolio of web design samples is a direct reflection of you. You will find it nearly impossible to get hired at a decent web design firm or ad agency without a great portfolio.

Web design is a hot industry, and more and more students are mastering the art of webmastery. There are many web sites available today with tutorials and step-by-step instructions on how to create a web site; some of these are good enough for complete novices to figure out. WSYWIG web editors are advancing as well, which means that even more people will soon be able to design their own web sites.

This means that you need to put together a solid web design portfolio that proves your competency and creativity. Make the viewer believe that they cannot function without your web design talents. Your use of technology and aesthetics should be flawless.

Your web design portfolio should offer a well-rounded look at your work.

We all have certain skills and talents that outshine others. Your web design portfolio should establish the fact that you are skilled in many areas of web design - not just Flash, advanced HTML coding, or ColdFusion.

Give the portfolio reviewer something to really think about. Blow them away with your samples that prove that you can create eloquent solutions to ecommerce web sites and solve complex problems if needed.

While you may be tempted to include two or three really good examples of your web design, you should add enough samples to highlight many areas of web design. Make sure to add notes that outline your methods, thoughts, and the process that lead you to design the project as you did.
